Part 10: A multi-part series on “What Can a Caterer do more for your Day of Special Event?”. Truths about food waste and how to prevent it.

The main attraction at any event, Food is always — Universal Unwritten Fact! However, did you know what remains unconsumed or uneaten is the highest largest contributor in garbage and perishable waste? This all goes into the trash system, after which, when it decomposes in landfills it results in extreme amounts of methane — a powerful greenhouse gas. Yikes! However, let’s see what the good news are? Simply, be a better measure when you are planning your own event with the almost exact number of. Guests which shall be arriving. If possible, if you can get a method wherein the attendees send in a RSVP with a confirmation of the number of persons attending your event. Nothing like this ever!  Be Proactive. When planning an event, ask your event or wedding planner or catering manager to help with researching on ways to best utilizer any leftover food materials, raw materials, and completed-prepared food stuff! There are organizations or even communities, which offer to pick up leftover food, and use them at needful places and the less fortunate in the society. More often than not, the idea of donating food from an event is an afterthought, which results in it being thrown away! Design and Manage way ahead of your schedule, and make arrangements in advance. The average person can at most consume 1 pound of food at each meal. Be Mindful. However, hotels, or other catering service operators, at large events, are setting out food on buffets while going up to feeding the average person with 3 pounds of food! In an effort to avoid ordering too much, seek less variety of food and higher quality when designing your menu. Be Supportive. Planners and venues must be proactive while having the contract discussion with you regarding the food quantity and resources available at the day of the event. Remember that, Together we can help care for our environment and raise awareness at the same.

 

Now, special occasions are hosted to make memories worth a life time! Ain’t that more true when you think of Shagun!
